Role of Fourth Estate in India 2020 plans

Friends............Hope we all would have watched the TV non stop for the last three days to get updates about the Encounters that happened in our commerial hub Mumbai.....All our news channels gave us the LIVE coverage of "War on Mumbai" continuously for around 60 hours. I was really surprised with the way the journalists risked their lives by standing in the Line of Fire, just to give updates to the whole country about the significant developments that happened in Taj...Nariman house and Trident....Infact few of the media persons got shot too while covering this whole episode.....
One thing I realised...I,being in the IT industry, can no way compare myself to the duty, dedication and sincerity shown by the media persons...NSG commandos and other protection forces.....I can no way get near to the tasks they are involved in......seeing their enthusiasm....spirit....excitement....For the first time in my life...i realised the old saying..."Work is worship" ..they stand for this statement..... Infact i was inspired to do a Media and Journalism course to become a Media reporter .....interviewing big names.....asking tough questions to the politicians....(even i am ready with the list of questions.....just like Karan Thapar of Devil's Advocate...)..Such is a powerful tool .......MEDIA..............
As we could see in the news channels....whatever issue the media takes...it is able to take the issue to the next level and get the right people answer the right questions... and gets the needed for the public......In the last one year i saw lot of instances like Aarushi murder case, BMW Hit and Run, Ship hijacking case,High handedness of the politicians etc etc...the list goes on....In all these instances media took a very powerful role by Fighting for Justice and it created the scenario where the culprits could not escape and the guilty are brought to records.
But nowadays it is really unfortunate to see nowadays, the news channels getting more commercialised.....striving hard only to increase the viewership ratings.....We could see more masala news creeping in ...and some news channels are even completely dedicated to them.....If there is a healthy competition amongst the media channels, it would benefit the public...the system....the news channel...and everybody..... But this is not happening..... It is really disappointing to see some of the channels telling more rubbish news to the public with the EXCLUSIVE tag to it..... Does India need such a fourth estate to voice for the public?????
This media has played ...is playing and will play a brilliant role in changing this whole corrupt system.....But when commercialisation of the news creeps in...the whole funda of this FOURTH ESTATE concept is lost....The basic role of the media changes and it more becomes like a VOICE OF THE RICHES.....who dont mind spending few currencies to gain some cheap publicity......Now the media is in the transition stage ....its just like a Cat on the wall........it has to understand its responsibility and behave accordingly...remember now the People of India have started relying on the media to gain justice from this slow.....corrupt judicial system.....But for all these, the whole media is playing a beautiful role in taking our country forward ...with applying brakes to the arrogant, corrupt politicians.....questioning them as and when they do a mistake.
For the Vision 2020 to happen, this media has a greater and responsible role to play.We all talk about the Youth entering politics...but this dream is not possible without the support of the media. The main reason for the youth, for not entering into the politics,is the tough resistance they face from the system...politicians and everybody....Here the media needs to play a significant role by showcasing the ideas of the youth , bringing them to discussions on par with the Big Politicians in their talk shows....Once all these happens....it would become a cake walk for the youth to enter politics and bring a sea change in the system which we are blaming.
Now the media is doing a good job of identifying the wrong things that are happening in the society....they identify the reason behind it ...but what is more expected of the media is...to get the solutions from the experts and see to that the solution is implemented by the government. This will signal the Era of a new Political System that could begin and help us reach our vision of India 2020 as our ex-president Kalam dreamt of.
